BlueScope Indonesia’s Program for YOUNG INDONESIAN ARCHITECTS

THECHANDRADIMUKA’s participants

Jakarta, 17 July 2008 - Indonesia’s leading steel and building solutions manufacturers, PT BlueScope Steel Indonesia and PT BlueScope Lysaght Indonesia,
in conjunction with Institute of Architects, Indonesia (IAI) and international design firm, Cox Architects and Planners, today proudly awarded two emerging Indonesian architects with scholarships to embark on a three-month internship program at the Cox Architects and Planners practice in Australia.

The program aims to challenge Indonesia’s young architects to think about how steel can offer solutions to Indonesia’s building and construction - as well as environmental - challenges. To meet these challenges, flexible, sustainable and cost effective solutions must be found. This internship will help emerging Indonesian architects develop the skills and knowledge to drive Indonesian architecture forward.

THECHANDRADIMUKHA is a 3-day design workshop held at Jakarta Design Centre by BlueScope Steel Indonesia and Institute of Architects, Indonesia.

This year THECHANDRADIMUKA focused on a case study of a building that provide various business activities such as Creative Business Incubator, Education, and Virtual Office, proposed by seven professional Ideopoliz communities pioneered by Andi S. Budiman. At the end of the workshop, the nine participants presented their works in front of a panel of invited professional architects including Budi A. Sukada, Yori Antar, dan Baskoro Tedjo. Mr Gunawan Tjahjono, a highly respected senior architect and the senior Dean of the University of Indonesia Architecture Department, hosted the presentation, and the panel was moderated by Ahmad Djuhara.
